Varicocele

Varicocele is a condition that affects the veins in the scrotum and is a common cause of male infertility. It occurs when the veins become dilated and blood flow is compromised, leading to an increase in temperature and pressure in the scrotum.

What Causes Varicoceles?

The exact cause of varicoceles is unknown, but they are thought to be related to a problem with the valves in the veins that control blood flow. Varicoceles are most common in men between the ages of 15 and 25 and are often asymptomatic.

What are the Symptoms of Varicoceles?

Varicoceles may cause a range of symptoms, including pain or discomfort in the scrotum, a heavy or dragging sensation in the scrotum, or a lump or swelling in the scrotum. Some men may also experience infertility or decreased sperm quality as a result of varicoceles.

How are Varicoceles Diagnosed?

Varicoceles are usually diagnosed through a physical exam, ultrasound, or MRI. Our doctor may also order blood tests or a semen analysis to evaluate the quality of your sperm.

How are Varicoceles Treated?

The treatment of varicoceles will depend on the size and severity of the veins, as well as any symptoms you are experiencing. In some cases, surgery to repair the veins may be recommended. In other cases, medication or lifestyle changes may be recommended to manage symptoms and improve blood flow.
